Why Emotional Intelligence?

The concept of Emotional Intelligence was introduced for the first time by John Mayer (professor of New Hampshire University) and Peter Salovey (President of Yale University) in 1990. They have conducted very significant research in the area and published many articles about the importance of EQ. The work of Mayer and Salovey was made popular by a journalist, Daniel Goleman who published the book “Emotional Intelligence: Why it can matter more than IQ” in 1996. It became the top of the bestseller list for months.

Why Emotional Intelligence is important?

Based on research, Emotional Intelligence is twice more powerful than IQ and it is a better predictor of one’s success compare to knowledge, technical skills, and even expertise. World Economic Forum has listed Emotional Intelligence as one of the top 10 important skills any human being needs to cultivate in 2020.

I have experienced that people in an organization will be much happier and productive if they have a good engagement with their peers and superior. And based on research, people tend to stay longer in the organization if they have good relationships with their colleagues. Students in school will be more creative, curious, proactive, and kind if the teachers use Emotional Intelligence in their teaching approach. The family will have more love and trust if the family members practice Emotional Intelligence with each other.
